User Reviews

Overall, Macros is praised for its simple, reliable tracking, strong customization of macros, and a robust barcode-enabled food library. The core app offers good value with a relatively unobtrusive ad model. Common drawbacks include intrusive ads after updates, occasional performance glitches and bugs, issues with the barcode scanner, and missing features such as built-in progress tracking, widgets, or easy sharing. Most users remain loyal, citing ease of use and effectiveness despite these drawbacks.
Pros
  • Very easy to use with a clean, simple layout.
  • Reliable macro tracking with an accurate, customizable food database.
  • Highly flexible macros, including per-meal customizations and adjustable nutrients.
  • Strong food library and barcode scanning plus a personal library for quick logging.
  • Free core app with optional premium and generally unobtrusive ads.
Cons
  • Ads can become intrusive after updates and can slow the experience.
  • Performance issues and glitches (slowdowns, animations, non-responsive UI).
  • Barcode scanner sometimes stops working after updates.
  • Some users feel macro goals are forced to calories and customization is limited.
• Missing features like built-in progress tracking, widgets, and sharing options (and occasional bugs like next button not responding).

I’ve been using this for a few years. It’s great at counting calories but whatever it’s using to assess what I need to do to lose weight does not work. I’ve tried everything. I’ve tried being honest, putting in my actual age, weight and height, telling it to lose weight and following it strictly and not losing weight. I think because of my age it’s not correctly accounting for menopause and that I need to be more restrictive so I tell her that I’m shorter or that I’m lighter or that I’m older so that it will reduce my calories and I still don’t lose weight. I am strict as possible, and I still don’t lose weight. Sometimes I allow it to account for the exercise I do every day and sometimes I don’t. It doesn’t matter. I still don’t lose weight. After three or four years of using this app I’m up 25 pounds rather than down any weight. I don’t eat out. I don’t eat with friends. I don’t do anything but follow this app strictly. It’s not worth it. Maybe if you’re 20, you’ll lose weight no matter what you do. But this app is not designed either for women or for older people or I’m not sure what.
