User Reviews

MacroTracker is praised for being free, private, easy to use, with a solid food database and barcode scanning, plus clear charts. Its key strengths are no ads or subscriptions and the ability to tailor foods and track macros. However, common downsides include reliability issues: crashes that can cause data loss, lack of cross-device syncing (phone/tablet) and limited health app integration, and requests for more customization with occasional search gaps. Some OS compatibility concerns are noted. Overall it’s a strong free option, but stability and feature completeness need work.
Pros
  • Free macro/calorie tracking with no subscription and no ads.
  • Very user-friendly and intuitive UI that makes logging easy.
  • Strong food database with helpful search, barcode scanning, and ability to add custom foods.
  • Privacy-friendly and does not track users.
  • Comprehensive progress visuals and charts for macros and weight that help with motivation.
Cons
  • Crashes and stability issues that can lead to data loss.
  • Lack of cross-device syncing (phone/tablet) and limited health/app integration.
  • Desire for more customization options (e.g., sugar tracking, notes, vitamins) and control over servings.
  • Occasional gaps in the food database/search requiring manual entry for some items.
  • Compatibility or stability issues on some OS versions/devices.

Update June 1 2026. The app now won’t search any of the database for foods. It literally says no results. I have reached out to the developer several times with no response. I really liked the app but I might have to go to something else’s that’s being supported or updated from time to time. I really like the app. Frankly it’s one of the best free options on the App Store. I really wish the developer would update a couple of things: 1. The calorie counter is way off, even from its own calculation. For example if you manually enter your steps the calories out are way higher than the app automatically tracks. My wish list here is that it would just import ALL of the data from my Apple Watch. Workouts, steps etc. 2. I can only search the foods when not connected to WiFi. It doesn’t make any sense and the developer hasn’t responded to any bug reports. Overall I still will use the app. But I really wish it would get a few much needed updates. And I haven’t used any of the ai features and I likely won’t so I can’t speak to that.

I love this app I’ve used it for over a year now. It’s so easy to use and you can save meals for easy meal planning. The macro bars are simple and easy for getting an idea on how you’re doing reaching your goals. Connect your health app to convert steps into calories to track. I use this app every day and the more you use it and save meals the easier it gets. Time for my one complaint that would get my 5th star- speaking to my dietitian I need to get more fiber. It’s easy tracking my macros but I’d love for a small bar under macros for tracking fiber. It’s essential for gut health and to lower risk of colon cancer. Most people aren’t reaching Fiber intake goals so it would make it so much easier to have a place to track dietary fiber when making meals, quick adds, and the addition of a fiber bar. Since green is taken by carbs maybe make it blue or red. Just so I can track it. I know I need 33 g so it would be so beneficial and easy for easier tracking rather than trying to track somewhere else

This is a great app, until it crashes. I have now lost months of data due to the app crashing twice now. All my stored foods and meals completely wiped out. However; based on a reply I received from the developer, it sounds like an issue that they are working on and hopefully we will have backups soon. This is a five-star app when I don’t lose my data so I look forward to these changes and raising my review rating once they are implemented.
