Widex Zen, Tinnitus Management

Health & Fitness

Features & Capabilities

Nobody else can hear it – but you hear it all the time. It’s a ringing, buzzing or humming noise playing in your ears, and it’s exasperating. The aggravating ringing in your ears, called tinnitus, can be managed.

This App provides you with a sounder player with relaxing Zen sounds. The Zen sounds presented on the playlist are intended to provide a relaxing sound background for adults (21 years and older) who desire to listen to such a background in quiet. The Zen sounds may be used as a sound therapy tool in a tinnitus treatment program that is prescribed by a licensed hearing healthcare professional who is trained in tinnitus management.

The Zen sounds presented in the playlist are intended to be used in quiet where hearing everyday sounds is not critical. The sounds are intended to provide a relaxing sound background for those who suffer from tinnitus.

The app also provides you with access to educational tools, which are intended to increase your awareness about how to live with your tinnitus through education on the basics of tinnitus as well as explained exercises.

Usage:

The app is intended to be used with Widex hearing aids (either with streaming capability or via a COM-DEX or UNI-DEX). We recommend you listen to the selected sound for at least 2-4 hours a day, at a soft level. It is important the you choose a sound that you find is pleasant, to help you shift your focus away from your tinnitus. Listen to the sound while you are in quiet surroundings doing other things: reading, relaxing, working, etc.  If you use hearing aids, the sounds in the app may be used alone (without amplification) in quiet when you are not required to hear surrounding sounds, or they can be used so both the surrounding sounds and the app sounds are heard together.

User Reviews

Widex Zen offers a rich library of calming tinnitus-masking sounds that many users rely on for sleep and stress relief, with strong cross-compatibility (Widex aids or Bluetooth devices). However, reliability issues, concerns about ongoing updates, and mixed feedback on hearing-aid integration temper enthusiasm. The breathing guide’s voice is a minor drawback for some. Overall, it provides meaningful tinnitus relief and relaxation, but reliability and future support are key considerations.
Pros
  • Large, varied library of calming Zen and ambient tracks (e.g., Zen Dreams with a realistic bird) that help mask tinnitus and aid sleep.
  • Effectively helps tinnitus by providing distraction and relaxing background sounds, aiding sleep and relaxation.
  • Works with Widex hearing aids but is also compatible with any Bluetooth speaker or headphones, offering flexible use.
  • Useful for broader relaxation and sleep support, including helping a newborn sleep.
  • High-quality sound options and track variety make it a strong tinnitus-management and relaxation tool.
Cons
  • Reliability and stability issues: app can stop when the screen sleeps or you navigate away, and may not auto-resume after interruptions like phone calls.
  • Perceived outdatedness and lack of recent updates, raising concerns about ongoing support and future improvements.
  • Hearing-aid integration/feature changes can be problematic, including removal of some in-hearing-aid tinnitus sounds and potential signal-loss when streaming to devices.
  • The guided breathing exercise voice is not soothing for some users and detracts from relaxation.

The Zen Tinnitus Management is a good idea but outdated. With the advances of AI this could be an actual helpful tinnitus manhunt app. You also REMOVED in hearing aid tinnitus sounds in the ALLURE. WHY stream zen sounds from your phone to HAs when the HAs could contain the info with less signal loss? Apple has not yet adopted the newest and best sounding bluetooth. Get with it WIDEX. We are tired of newly released HAs with LESS improvements than the model before.

So thankful I found this app and wish I had it years ago. I’ve had tinnitus since a very young age (I think caused by many many ear infections damaging my ears?) and even though I lived with it all my life, there’s times it’s worse like when I’m sick or times when it’s almost unbearable because I can’t have one quiet moment. Sleepless nights with babies and all the anxieties of motherhood have made my tinnitus the tip of the iceberg when I’m exhausted with days of no sleep yet a racing mind keeping me up and on top of it all my ears seem to ring extra loud in these moments in the middle of the night. This apps sounds have helped me so much in these nights when a box fan won’t cut it. Turning on these sounds to make my mind focus on them instead of the endless thoughts and tinnitus has been incredibly helpful. Thank you for making this and please never remove it!!

I find this app very helpful to distract me from the tinnitus. Unfortunately when there’s an interruption like a phone call, the app doesn’t auto turn back on after the call has ended. I have to return to the app to restart.. Like many other apps can this feature be added?
