AdGuard Pro: Safari Ad Blocker

Privacy & Browser Security

Overview

Features & Capabilities

AdGuard Pro for Safari is an ultra-efficient ad blocker for iOS that not only removes ads but also protects your privacy with advanced tracking protection. As an open-source project, it offers transparency and safety for everyday browsing on iPhone and iPad. It blocks banners, pop-ups, and video ads in Safari, and lets you whitelist sites or block elements manually.

Beyond ad blocking, AdGuard Pro includes customizable filters, DNS privacy with support for popular DNS providers or a custom server, and security filters to guard against cryptojacking and online fraud. The result is faster browsing, reduced data usage, and longer battery life, while staying protected with extensive language-specific and third-party filter lists.

User Reviews

Users praise AdGuard Pro for strong ad blocking and good value. However, multiple reviews flag reliability issues: VPN disconnections, inconsistent ad-blocking, iOS 18 compatibility problems, DNS protections turning off, and stability problems like crashes. When working, the app is easy to use and offers strong DNS/privacy features.
Pros
  • Strong ad blocking, especially on Safari, with many users reporting few or no ads.
  • One-time purchase price with consistent updates and good value; worth the money.
  • Usability and interface are intuitive, clean design; easy setup.
  • DNS filtering and privacy protections included as part of the package.
  • Ongoing improvements to performance, e.g., faster rule updates.
Cons
  • VPN connectivity issues and frequent disconnections.
  • Inconsistent ad blocking; ads still appear (e.g., in Safari, NYTimes, YouTube).
  • iOS 18 compatibility problems; many sites/apps break after update.
  • DNS protection randomly turns off and related bugs (e.g., 'filter error').
  • Crashes and general instability (e.g., post-reboot connectivity issues).

Without all the tracking, Safari is running quicker. I think (I’m no expert) the DNS feature helps block Meta tracking. Yes, I requested it not to track, but I don’t trust Meta as ads still seem linked to my searches. Now, with AdGuard this seems to have gone away.
