User Reviews

Summary: Users largely praise Health Auto Export for fast, flexible data exports to CSV/JSON and for proactive developer support and clear pricing. However, many reviews report reliability problems with exporting, concerns about free-trial and billing practices, and rough UX with limited documentation and support. Some data gaps and format quirks also appear. Overall, it’s a strong tool for health data ownership when it works, but reliability and support issues dampen the experience for many users.
Pros
  • One-click/fast export of Apple Health data to CSV or JSON.
  • Flexible exports with selectable data fields and multiple formats.
  • Data backup and ownership by exporting Apple Health data for external analysis.
  • Active development with ongoing updates and responsive support.
  • Clear pricing model including lifetime license option and no ads.
Cons
  • Export reliability issues: app often fails to export or yields empty/zero-byte files despite attempts.
  • Free trial/pricing concerns: misleading free tier and gating of features behind payments, with some reports of being billed.
  • Poor UX/UI and limited documentation/support: confusing interface, opaque instructions, and little to no official product support.
  • Data gaps or format issues: missing timestamps for certain data types, incomplete data fields (e.g., medications), and occasional CSV/format mismatches (HAE files instead of CSV).
Recent reviews
It said I had Premium access for 7 days which should include automatic exports. I’ve tried with 3 different options (iCloud, etc), and it does not work. Works manually. Slightly disappointed and see no reason to buy to get automation if it doesn’t work.

I’ve been using this app for years to pull my Apple Watch data into Home Assistant. The developer was responsive to an issue I had and put out a quick fix. I contacted them using the form rather than screaming about a minor issue with a bad review. I don’t normally write reviews for apps but after reading the reviews here I felt that I had to. Most of the 1-3 star reviews are complaints about the app not doing something it never claimed to do, or being upset that the developer charges money for additional functionality. The entitlement is mind blowing. I’m not a fan of subscriptions but the dev also offers a reasonable one-time payment for an app with a small user base. It exports my health data every day using a webhook to sync to my Home Assistant instance. I can export to CSV. It allows me to take my health information out of the Apple ecosystem in the format that I choose and then analyze it in the way I want. It gives me both control and granularity over my data. The developer is responsive when contacted through the correct channels. Try the app for yourself. It has been a great purchase for me and if you’re willing to spend two minutes reading instructions, it will probably be a great purchase for you too.

The app can export Apple Health data to JSON/CSV once you pay, but the “free with in-app purchases” marketing is misleading. The free tier offers only widgets and in-app stats — zero export functionality. After the 7-day trial, the “Continue with free tier” button was grayed out and unusable in my experience, leaving no way to access even the limited free features without paying. The developer responded by claiming the App Store description “very clearly outlines what is included in each tier” and that exporting is not free. While there is a pricing section that lists the tiers, the critical details are buried far down the page: the free tier contains nothing related to exporting health data, the core purpose of the app. The prominent screenshots, preview images, and even the app name heavily emphasize data export and automation — yet the free tier offers only widgets. It is effectively a 7-day trial of a paid export tool, with the limited free features mentioned almost as an afterthought. This is still misleading for anyone expecting even basic free export capability, especially when the “continue with free tier” option becomes unusable after the trial. The developer’s tone in their public response was dismissive and condescending, including the claim that I “never even bothered to simply tap the button” and that “there is literally no one else misunderstanding this.” A clear pattern exists in other negative reviews where the developer responds with similar dismissive and condescending language — repeatedly accusing users of not reading the description or guides, blaming “misconfiguration” or “misunderstanding,” and questioning their competence rather than addressing the reported problem. Bottom line: The app works after you pay, but the free tier is effectively non-existent, the post-trial experience is frustrating, and the developer’s combative and dismissive public responses are a significant drawback. Read recent reviews carefully before purchasing.
