The Gunks app is a Chrome extension that provides digital guidebooks for rock climbing and bouldering in The Gunks. Climbs are presented in a searchable, filterable list; selecting a climb reveals a base photo, the route description, and a high-resolution zoomable aerial photo, topo, or GPS-enabled map. Photos include belays, descent information, variations, and new link-ups.

The app uses GPS to help you navigate to climbs and find the nearest route. It also includes a Tick List & To-Do List with cloud backup. Created by local climbers and contributions from a wide range of climbers and supporters, The Gunks app is an indispensable resource for both seasoned climbers and first-timers.

What page was that route on? What was it called? Swamy, Swanson, Simon ….SAMSONITE! I was way off. The app is a better reason to carry a phone to the crag than that’s obligatory topout selfie or ubiquitous belay stance picture of the leaders behind. Detailed topos overlaying real world photographs of the cliffs. Certain locations allow realtime navigation to the route. Logging, ticking, rating. It’s all there, and then some. There really isn’t a reason NOT to have the app for your chosen location.

The only thing better than their thorough digital guidebooks is their amazing customer service and their commitment to climbing! They use local authors, donate proceeds to climbing organizations, and will never be an ad-based or subscription model. Most of the digital world is pretty terrible but GunksApps is always good. Viva la GunksApps!

Ad free, concise, thoughtful creators. Love the gunks community and this app that was developed to host other guides for areas as well. Creators always looking for feedback/ways to improve.
