User Reviews

Overall, users praise Violin Sight Reading Trainer as a free, easy-to-use tool that quickly boosts beginner sight-reading and fingering familiarity. Its simple, ad-free design supports daily warm-ups and self-guided practice. However, common drawbacks include unclear time penalties, limited levels or real-song content, and the absence of a practice log or progress tracking. The app is still under development, but many reviewers see it as a solid, accessible resource for beginners.
Pros
  • Free and ad-free, making it accessible without extra costs.
  • Easy-to-use interface that helps learn notes and finger positions.
  • Significantly improves sight-reading and note recognition for beginners.
  • Effective training for beginners to learn fingerings and staff-note mapping.
  • Portable and suitable for daily warm-ups or practice anywhere.
Cons
  • Time penalty is unclear or bothersome.
  • Limited progression/levels; more higher levels or real songs would help.
  • Lacks a built-in progress tracking log (no tally of rounds or practice minutes).
  • App is still under development and missing some expected features.
  • Some UX quirks, such as needing to adjust sound via the device mute toggle to hear notes.

This is a very straightforward and basic app that helps memorization both for reading the treble clef notes, and finger positioning. I highly recommend this app if you want to learn the violin with as few crutches as possible. If you learn to walk in your mind without crutches, it’s easier to learn the violin without crutches. I am challenging myself, not to use tape as I have a good ear, and not to use any finger stickers. I do this app as a warm-up between 15 minutes to an hour every single day, both in the morning and at night. If you stop site reading, you will become rusty. keep practicing keep practicing keep practicing.

I try to use this at least once a day, and already my sight reading and note comprehension has improved. Recommend for anyone having trouble learning the staff and for anyone searching for a quick and easy little task to keep your mind sharp when it comes to notes.

This app is a little bad because I don’t understand time penalty. It’s really bothersome!☹️
