User Reviews

Sight Reading Factory is valued for boosting sight-reading, beginner-friendly use, and highly customizable practice, plus classroom utility and responsive support. Repeated drawbacks include onboarding/login trouble, a pricey subscription model, limited tempo/metronome options, display/zoom UI challenges on devices, and missing features like fingering annotations and broader range options. Overall, strong pedagogical value but onboarding friction and pricing hinder widespread adoption.
Pros
  • Significant improvement in sight-reading for many users
  • Beginner-friendly and easy to use, accessible for learners returning to music
  • Highly customizable practice content (patterns, measures, key, tempo, annotations)
  • Useful in classroom settings and for teachers/students to tailor exercises
  • Developers are responsive and actively release updates to fix issues
Cons
  • Onboarding and sign-in/account creation problems (login loops, no easy signup)
  • High price and subscription model; users want free access or perpetual ownership
  • Tempo options and metronome reliability are limited (single tempo in some cases, hiccups)
  • Display/zoom usability issues on devices (small staff on iPad, pinch-to-zoom can hide controls)
  • Missing fingering annotations and limited note-range/interval options (advanced players seek more range)

I really don’t know why this apps reviews are so low, it’s quite helpful. I’ve been able to learn rather quickly because of this app, and it’s awesome. I’ve been using the website for a while now, but it so much more efficient in app form. That being said, I think the price is a little much. $45 isn’t a lot of money, but I feel like maybe $30 a year would’ve been more fitting, and even that’s on the steep end. But considering it’s per year, I sort of understand it. I think $45 for how much you could learn in a year using this app is worth it, but I also think the payment should just change to a lifetime license.

It’s not THAT bad but honestly the auto assessment grading is really bad… I got very high scores for getting many notes wrong, and very low scores for getting everything right. On D major, it does not understand that the c string of my cello can’t do a C sharp. Do not recommend! Just practice with your teacher. It’s just better that way :(.
