Features & Capabilities

Moonlight Game Streaming lets you play PC games and other apps from your gaming PC on your iOS device over your local network. It is open-source and free, supporting up to 4K HDR at 120 FPS, Bluetooth controllers, keyboard/mouse input, Wake-on-LAN, and local co-op for up to four players.

It works with NVIDIA GeForce Experience GameStream on supported GPUs or Sunshine for broader compatibility. Setup is simple: install GFE and enable GameStream, or install Sunshine and complete the first-time setup. A 5 GHz WiFi connection is highly recommended, and a physical gamepad improves performance.

User Reviews

Moonlight on iOS delivers strong streaming performance and broad device support, including high resolutions and solid controller capabilities. Repeated drawbacks across reviews include connectivity/discovery issues, lack of ongoing updates and feature parity with other platforms, external monitor/fullscreen limitations, and limited on-device input controls. When it works, it’s competitive with alternatives, but reliability and maintenance remain persistent concerns.
Pros
  • Excellent streaming quality with low latency across devices.
  • Works out of the box and generally reliable when set up properly.
  • Strong controller support and feature set on supported platforms.
  • Broad cross-device compatibility (PC, iPad/phone, and other devices).
  • Supports high resolutions and high refresh rates (up to 4K/144 Hz) on compatible hardware.
Cons
  • Connectivity issues and PC discovery problems; not reliably plug-and-play over Wi-Fi or cellular.
  • Lack of updates and feature parity on iOS; app appears unmaintained compared with other platforms.
  • External monitor/fullscreen limitations and stage-manager related display issues on iPad.
  • Limited and non-customizable on-device controls; poor input options for typing, moving, and multitouch.
  • Troubleshooting experience can be unfriendly; setup often requires fiddling to get working.

It can’t be perfect just like I left a similar review for the Steam Link. Connectivity issues is my main thing for me, wouldn’t recommend with bad WiFi. Hopefully it would get better. Haven’t tried voidlink yet… Maybe it might be a game changer?

I have moonlight on an android. It has so many more helpful features and makes this one look outdated. For example, “gamepad acts mouse” feature, and may others. Pretty please with a cherry on top add a few of the modern moonlight features
