AudioNav

AudioNav is a free, voice-guided navigation system for Hungarian public transport for blind and visually impaired passengers. It was specifically designed for use with screen readers.

What is it good for in practice?

AudioNav helps in four situations:

1. You don't know what's leaving from near you. The application lists the nearby stops based on your current location and tells you which service leaves from which, in which direction, and in how many minutes.

2. You are standing at the stop and don't know if your vehicle has arrived yet. You can ask it to monitor this one service at this stop and it will announce when it arrives. You will also hear it on your pocket, closed phone. You can also tell the phone that you are getting on it: from there it will accompany you until you get off, and if you still don't get on, it will monitor the next service at the same place.

3. You've already boarded and don't know where to get off. You can tell the app where you're going and it will warn you before you have to get off. You can also ask it to announce each stop as you go.

4. There's a route you'd like to follow based on your cues. You can record a route as you walk, using your own words ("turn left at the gate"), and the next time you walk along it, the app will read out what you've recorded to yourself at the appropriate points.
