Hauban Tracker

Track tool usage for your organization

Features & Capabilities

Hauban Tracker – Firefox Extension

Hauban Tracker is a Firefox extension designed to track the usage of tools, applications, and SaaS services within your organization. To start using the extension, generate a tracking token from: app.hauban.io/admin/settings?tab=tracking

Features

• URL Matching – Automatic detection based on the actual website URL (not the page title) • Active Time Tracking – Only counts time spent on the active browser tab • Anonymous Tracking – No automatic user identification • Periodic Sync – Usage data is sent every 5 minutes • Inactivity Detection – Tracking pauses automatically when the user is inactive • Enterprise Deployment – Managed configuration via Group Policy (GPO) • Discovery Mode – Automatically detect Shadow IT applications used in your organization

Discovery Mode (Shadow IT Detection)

Discovery Mode helps organizations automatically detect SaaS applications used by employees, even if they are not yet listed in Hauban.

Automatically excluded domains include: • Social networks (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) • Entertainment websites (YouTube, Netflix, Spotify) • Search engines (Google, Bing) • E-commerce websites (Amazon, eBay)

How to enable Discovery Mode

-> Manually – Toggle “Discovery Mode” in the extension popup -> Via Group Policy – Set DiscoveryMode: true in the managed policy

Discovered applications will appear in: Hauban → Admin → Discovered Apps

From there, administrators can: • Add them to the catalog • Ignore them (stop reporting them) • View usage statistics

Enterprise Deployment (GPO)

For large-scale deployments using Group Policy, please refer to the official Hauban documentation.

How it works

  • The extension retrieves the list of tools from the Hauban API
  • When you visit a website, the extension matches the domain against the configured tools
  • Time spent on each tool is accumulated while the tab is active
  • Every 5 minutes, the collected data is synchronized with the Hauban API
Data Collected

The extension only sends the following information:

• Tool ID – Identifier of the detected tool • Active Seconds – Time spent using the tool • Timestamp – Event timestamp • Machine ID – Unique browser identifier generated locally

No personal data is collected. The extension does not collect email addresses, user names, or page content.

Is Hauban Tracker Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Hauban Tracker requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

Hauban Tracker is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
