What is Meet Mute?

'Meet Mute' is a Chrome extension designed to provide an efficient way to control your microphone during Google Meet sessions. It provides you the options to set global keyboard shortcuts to mute and unmute effortlessly. The extension's icon changes color (green for unmuted, red for muted) to indicate your mic's current status. You can also control this feature by clicking on the extension's icon. Keyboard shortcuts can be customized through the extension's settings in the Chrome menu.

With this extension, you can:

Set global keyboard shortcuts to toggle muting from anywhere
See if you are currently muted from the app's icon
Toggle muting by clicking the app's icon

When the app's icon is tri-colored, there is no active Google Meet session.
When the app's icon is green colored, the microphone is currently unmuted.
When the app's icon is red colored, the microphone is currently muted.

To set the keyboard shortcuts, right click the app icon -> Manage Extensions. From there, click the hamburger menu -> Keyboard shortcuts. Here you can set keyboard shortcuts for any extension. You can also specify Chrome (when Chrome is in focus) or Global (when any window is in focus).

Not working correctly with Version 121.0.6167.185 (Official Build) (64-bit) Verified: Site access is "automatically allow access on the following sites: https://meet.google.com/*" If I mute from inside the meet window, the icon updates to match. If I click the icon, it changes, but does not mute the meet window. I then cannot reset the top icon without muting and unmuting inside the meet window. This also causes the global shortcut key to fail. https://github.com/mattsimonis/meet-mute/issues/15 may be relevant, but has not been actioned

This is a lifesaver! It's a game changer to be able to mute/unmute yourself from any Chrome tab or window or even application. To set keyboard shortcuts, make sure you read the instructions (right click the icon > manage extensions > click the three lines icon on the top left corner > keyboard shortcuts). Thanks for making this extension!

Just wanted to add that this extension works exactly as stated with latest Chrome (at time of writing) [89.0.4389.90]. No un-required bells and whistles - one of those "essential apps" for me.
