Review summary

Users broadly praise the add-on for blocking autoplay across many sites and providing a simple red-click overlay to control when a video plays. It’s lightweight and even helps on mobile, earning “sanity saver” praise. However, issues recur: not universal coverage across all sites, no per-site whitelist, an intrusive red frame, occasional glitches (double videos), and some site-specific breakages. Overall it’s effective but with notable trade-offs and feature requests.
Pros
  • Prevents auto-playing videos on a wide range of sites (YouTube, Pinterest, eBay, Fox Business, IMDB, Amazon Prime, etc.), reducing distractions.
  • Uses a red overlay square that you click to activate and view the video, giving you explicit control.
  • Lightweight and uses negligible system resources.
  • Effective on Firefox Mobile as well, according to user reviews.
  • Described by users as a 'sanity saver' and a godsend for blocking autoplay.
Cons
  • Not universally effective—some sites or video players still autoplay or behave oddly (e.g., Brightcove, certain pages or playlists).
  • Lacks per-site whitelist/disable options, forcing a site-wide experience.
  • Red frame overlay is intrusive and many users want it optional or hideable.
  • Occasional glitches like two videos playing after a click or inconsistent blocking on some pages.
  • Site-specific breakages (e.g., changes on Amazon Prime) can make it stop working and users may have to remove or disable it.

2026-06-11 Re***** Kind of does the job. I just don't know why anyone would think we'd want a big, ugly, red "click to play" box that frequently gets in the way and makes it hard to even play a video when you do want to. It also often seemed to quit working on YouTube, too. And there was usually a delay before working at all, like I saw at least one other person mention. I got tired of it and had to figure out something better.

2026-05-20 Al***** The extension is too slow. It only starts working after about a second. If it's a video with sound, the cat jumps through the roof.

2026-04-11 Fi***** it works, but the red frame location is not precise in some site with lazy loading element Wish for a temporary switch or whitelist

2026-01-17 Bi***** Can't speak for others, but this has been a sanity saver for me! Does EXACTLY what it says, and you simply click on the red square to view a video. This allows the video and controls to be active as desired. Works on YouTube to prevent auto-playing as well as those damn eBay videos when viewing; ..."drives me crazy with the same BS videos over and over down every page! This is a an overlay that slightly grays over video, outlined with a red square. Simply click inside the red square to activate and view the video. Also works on all video adds and popups on all websites. Can be disabled too and uses negligible resources. Like I said, A sanity saver as I HATE AUTOMATED VIDEOS, or ANYTHING that distracts from the content you're viewing or studying. Outstanding AAA+!

2025-04-20 ju***** Giving 5-stars because I got a nice red square around IMDB's (muted, autoplaying) videos. That's why I installed this. I hope IMDB isn't still downloading video bits in the background. There are a few ways to test this in Linux. Will do this soon (I hope) and update this review.

2025-03-06 Fi***** Its good, but its missing the most important "whitelist" feature... therefore for me it completely loses its usefulness, moreover the red frame should be --optional-- since on some websites it is shown incorrectly on pages
