The app enables volunteers to participate in studies of the Institute of Aerospace Medicine at the German Aerospace Center (DLR e.V.). Our goal is to maintain the performance, sleep and well-being of people who work under the special challenges and risks of the mobile 24-hour society. Special environmental factors (e.g. hypoxia) and unusual working hours (e.g. shift work, jet lag) are widespread in aerospace and transport and have short-term effects on cognitive performance and well-being and long-term consequences for health for many people. We specifically explore the effects of lack of sleep, irregular sleep times, unfavorable working hours and high workload. We use the findings to develop individualized countermeasures and to improve long-term health and occupational safety.
