A NOTE ON BACKGROUND TRACKING
Android is strict about apps using location in the background. For recording to keep going reliably while your phone is in your pocket or after a reboot, please allow location "all the time", allow notifications on newer Android versions, and let the app run in the background without battery limits. A few phone brands may still delay the app after a restart.

GPS Logger needs location permission to record your trips. Background location lets a recording carry on when the app isn't on screen, the screen is off, or auto-start is on.
