User Reviews

Users find the Bass Trainer app effective for learning bass fretboard notes and connecting notation to finger positions. The app is praised for simplicity and suitability for daily practice. However, multiple users note the fretboard display is upside-down, which is counterintuitive. There are also issues with tap accuracy and incorrect string tuning displayed, causing confusion. Despite ads and occasional UI glitches, users appreciate the app's core learning functionality.
Pros
  • Helps effectively learn and memorize the notes on the bass fretboard.
  • Good connection between standard notation and fretboard visualization.
  • Simple and easy to use, suitable for daily practice in short periods.
  • Useful for translating sheet music to bass fretboard positions.
  • Supports learning multiple positions of the same note across the fretboard.
Cons
  • Fretboard representation is upside-down compared to many users' mental model, causing confusion.
  • Screen sensitivity issues: difficulty accurately registering taps, especially on the G string.
  • Strings are tuned incorrectly in the app (A E D G instead of E A D G), which can confuse users.
  • Annoying ads and desire for a paid no-ads version.
  • Some UI glitches and unrealistic visual design affecting user experience.

Great for learning location of notes on the fretboard, but that's all it does. Gave it 5

It's a great app, the only issue I have is that the representation of the fretboard is upside-down, same as it is with tablature, which is counter-intuitive. When I visualise my fretboard, the low E is at the top, like I'm seeing it through the back of the neck, and surprisingly, most other people I've asked see it this way too. Maybe an option to flip it the right way up would help people get their head around it easier.
