Deep Shaft

Deep Shaft is a dark, tense one-thumb arcade climber set deep inside an abandoned mine.

The workings broke into a magma pocket, and now molten rock is flooding the pit from below. A lantern-lit miner clings to a timber ledge at the bottom of the shaft while the magma creeps up in the dark. Braced timber ledges zig-zag upward past mine-cart rails, hanging lanterns and glinting ore veins. HOLD the LEFT half of the screen to charge a leap up-and-left, HOLD the RIGHT half to charge up-and-right -- a power gauge fills as you hold, so dose it: a quick tap is a short hop, a long hold a high, far leap. Aim with the lantern dots, release, and land squarely on the next ledge. Land dead-centre for a PERFECT and bonus points; leap short or long and you plunge past the timber into the magma below.

The catch: the magma never stops rising. Linger too long and it reaches your boots, so every ascent is a race for the surface. Deeper shafts send the molten line up faster, fill the gauge quicker and spread the ledges wider -- plus ledges that ride the rails side-to-side and rotten timbers that cave in a heartbeat after you land, forcing you to leap on before the ground gives way. Ore glints float above some ledges; scoop them up on your way out for extra score. Climb the ledges each shaft demands to surface, then chase a richer best score on every pit.
