Post-update reviews are overwhelmingly negative. Recurrent issues include payments/refunds failing and blocking ticket purchases, broken journey planning with incorrect times, missing platform details, and difficult open-return/search flows, plus login/notification/UI instability. A minority note the older version worked better or consider alternatives like Trainline. Overall, reliability and usability have degraded significantly.

Never had any problems at all. Don't think it needs to be changed at all

Refunds and amendments no longer work in the app (errors out) – you have to call support
Journeys/search and related flow are broken or hard to use (delays, wrong times, unable to view multiple routes, need to re-enter details)
Platform information (platforms) not shown anymore, making connections risky
Open return options are hard to find or missing, making planning awkward
Notifications broken or unreliable; constant login prompts and overall UI instability

Recent reviews

I am a heavy user of trains and used to use Crosscountry to book all of my tickets as they had a good app, and charged no fees for amending bookings. I no longer use them because of this garbage which was released last year replacing the previous excellent app, & has continued to be useless through multiple updates, and crucially, amending tickets is still broken requiring a phone call to make any changes. That's alongside random crashes and other UI downgrades that now make the app unusable.

The CrossCountry app exploits a system that has poor integration with bus transport: you are charged an admin fee of £1 when adding on a plus-bus ticket as the system (or maybe CrossCountry's app provider) can't generate a plus-bus QR code on the app. I decided to buy my anytime return ticket instead in person at Birmingham New Steet station. The staff member behind the counter advised me that none of the station's ticket machines will sell the customer a plus-bus ticket.

Why on god's green Earth did you update the app and just make something good and functional to something utterly awful??? 😭😭 The app no longer logs me in, even when I've put in the correct password and reset it. Disgraceful.
