UTS

Indian Railways official android app to book unreserved train tickets

Features & Capabilities

UTS on mobile is the official Indian Railways ticketing app for booking unreserved, platform and season tickets on Android, iOS and Windows. Registered users (age 12+) can create an account with OTP verification, activate an R‑Wallet, and log in to book normal, quick, QR and paper tickets. The app requires good data connectivity and GPS for paperless ticketing and supports offline ticket display for inspections.

Features include journey and return bookings, platform and season tickets, QR booking, ticket history, R‑Wallet recharge and surrender, and profile management (change city, route, password and device). Paperless tickets must be booked away from station premises and cannot be cancelled; paper tickets require printing at ATVM/CoTVM or counters before boarding and may be cancelled prior to printing subject to fare rules. The app also offers offline 'show ticket' mode for TTE/TC verification.

User Reviews

Users report slow performance and reliability issues with UTS, especially around booking and wallet funds. Wallet migration and transfers to Rail One are repeatedly questioned. Reviews contrast Rail One unfavorably with UTS, while some praise UTS as useful and well-supported. The dominant themes are speed problems, wallet/transition issues, and frustration with the Rail One migration, though several users still view UTS positively for its usefulness and service.
Pros
  • UTS is considered a better option than Rail One (Rail One issues push users toward UTS).
  • App is described as useful and user-friendly (e.g., 'excellent', 'very useful').
  • Good service and responsive booking experience.
  • Positive sentiments about design and overall usability (e.g., 'nice' and 'beautiful' app design).
Cons
  • Very slow performance and load times.
  • Ticket booking failures or payments deducted without issuing tickets (unreserved tickets issues, incorrect routes).
  • Wallet balance issues and questions about transferring/withdrawing funds to Rail One.
  • Transition to Rail One causes reliability concerns; Rail One is criticized by users.
  • App appears discontinued or not updated on the Play Store.
