User reviews

Users appreciate the added value and improved security of ExpressVPN Keys included with the VPN subscription. However, many report serious issues such as the extension not working or loading correctly, dependence on the ExpressVPN app, lack of autofill functionality, and recurring problems after VPN app updates. Support responsiveness and effectiveness is also a common concern. Overall, the extension is seen as below par compared to other password managers, with frustrating usability and reliability problems noted repeatedly.
Pros
  • Included with ExpressVPN subscription, providing added value.
  • Improved security compared to built-in browser password managers.
  • Helpful support team when contacted, though issues sometimes remain unresolved.
Cons
  • Extension often fails to work or load properly, redirecting users to setup pages repeatedly.
  • Requires ExpressVPN app installed and running to function, limiting use on some devices.
  • Lacks key features expected in password managers like autofill and password saving prompts.
  • Frequent issues after ExpressVPN app updates causing disconnections or loss of functionality.
  • Customer service for issues like account creation or support chat is often unresponsive or ineffective.

06/11/25 - Installs fine, but nothing happens when I click the extension icon. Not even an error code. Just nothing. Contacted support and while the man was helpful and fast, he could not resolve the issue and noted they'd get back to me if they find a solution. So for now, I guess it just doesn't work, at all. I feel like I should get a portion of the money I paid back, though, since Keys is part of the product and it just doesn't work, and there's no solution either.

Clumsy, not intuitive, does a poor job if importing passwords. Does not work well at all. Changed to Google Password Manager - not great but better.

Well it bothers me that I can only use the extension if I have expressVPN app installed in my machine. It works ok in my PC that I have it installed, but you need to unlock it at least once when you login to your machine so the autofill icon starts to show up. Also, it doesn't ask to save your logins after you input your credentials in a website login page like google does, so you need to create everything manually. The VPN is working great though.

A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

ExpressVPN Keys: Password Manager requires a lot of sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
