XPath Highlighter Firefox

XPath Highlighter

By: mrkptt
Type an XPath to highlight all matches on the page and navigate them via a results list. Click an item to scroll & flash the element. Remembers your last query; a Clear button removes highlights. RU/EN interface (auto-detect).

Features & Capabilities

XPath Highlighter is a tiny, fast tool for testing XPath directly on any webpage.

Features • Instant highlighting while you type. • Results list with readable labels (TAG#id.class — "text"). • Click a result to scroll to the element and briefly “flash” it. • Works with element, attribute, and text-node matches. • Remembers your last XPath between popup openings (local only). • One-click Clear button to remove highlights. • RU/EN interface (auto based on browser language).

How to use 1. Click the toolbar button. 2. Type or paste an XPath (e.g., //a[contains(@href,'login')]). 3. Review matches in the list; click any item to jump to it.

Permissions explained • activeTab — run only on the tab you click the extension on. • scripting — inject minimal CSS/JS to draw highlights and list matches. • storage — save your last XPath and UI language state on your device.

Privacy • No data collection. No network requests. Everything runs locally in your browser.

Limitations • Not available on Firefox internal pages (e.g., about:*) or AMO pages due to browser restrictions. • Cross-origin iframes and Shadow DOM may limit what XPath can access.

Compatibility • Firefox 109+ (Manifest V3).

If you need a manual language switch or keyboard shortcuts, let us know—planned as future enhancements.

Is XPath Highlighter Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

XPath Highlighter requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
