Winger - A Window Manager

Name windows, move tabs between windows, stash windows away, and more. Use multiple windows with ease, making them a truly viable way to organize lots of tabs.

Winger is a powerful Chrome extension that transforms how you manage multiple browser windows and tabs. It allows you to name windows based on topics, tasks, or projects, and facilitates effortless tab movement between windows to keep your browsing organized. The extension features a panel accessible via a keyboard shortcut (default: F1), offering easy navigation and comprehensive functions such as help, switching windows, and sending or bringing tabs across windows.

Beyond tab management, Winger supports private windows by automatically reopening tabs in appropriate windows, introduces meaningful window minimizing to enhance organization, and offers a stash feature to save and close windows without losing their tab structure. Stashed windows are stored as bookmarks, accessible even across devices. Winger's intuitive commands and context menus make managing multiple tabs and windows seamless for improved productivity and better browser experience.

User reviews

Users praise Winger as an excellent extension for managing multiple Firefox windows and tabs, highlighting its keyboard-friendly controls and innovative stash feature that integrates with bookmarks. It outperforms other tools and significantly boosts workflow efficiency. However, several users desire dedicated buttons and keyboard shortcuts for stash and unstash actions to improve usability, noting current reliance on typing commands can be inconvenient. A few report minor reliability issues like forgetting window names after rebooting. Overall, it's a well-crafted, essential tool for power users managing extensive browsing sessions.
Pros
  • Effectively manages tabs across multiple Firefox windows, improving organization and workflow.
  • Supports keyboard controls and slash commands, enabling efficient tab and window management without relying heavily on mouse.
  • Includes a 'stash' feature to save windows or tabs for later, integrating well with bookmarks and enhancing tab management.
  • Lightweight and reliable compared to similar extensions, providing a seamless user experience.
  • Highly valued by users transitioning from other browsers or managing complex tab setups.
Cons
  • Lack of dedicated buttons for common actions like 'stash' and 'unstash;' current reliance on typing commands is less intuitive.
  • No keyboard shortcut for unstashing windows; users find mouse interaction cumbersome, especially with many tabs.
  • Some issues with the add-on forgetting window names after system restart; occasional reliability problems reported.

An excellent extension - thank you. Thinking better for memory than tabbing things all in to one window. Feedback: Would love to see an option that also shows the /viewstashed in the list as well, instead of having to type in /view ... This could be an option setting? Otherwise - great work!

I actually made my own "Send tab to another window" extension, then stumbled on Winger, which does it more reliably. I am also using a window per project and Winger seems to manage this workflow better than anything else I've tried.
