Windowed - floating Youtube/every website

Changes fullscreen buttons to go into a popup. Works for every website that uses fullscreen, including Youtube, Vimeo, Netflix

Windowed is a Chrome extension that transforms fullscreen buttons on popular websites into floating windows. This allows users to watch videos on platforms like YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Vimeo, and more, while simultaneously working on other tasks without interrupting playback.

Unlike typical fullscreen modes, Windowed places the video inside its own adjustable window without reloading or altering playback controls. Upon clicking fullscreen, you can choose between classic fullscreen or a popup window, enhancing multitasking capabilities and productivity. It supports many popular video sites, but excludes flash videos and those using native HTML fullscreen controls.

Source and installation are available on GitHub and the Chrome Web Store, ensuring users easy access and transparency. Windowed is perfect for anyone who wants flexibility when watching videos while working, chatting, or browsing.

User reviews

Users appreciate the add-on for enabling floating video windows on sites like YouTube and Hulu, enhancing multitasking. Many value its continuity from Chrome to Firefox, finding it simple and effective. However, multiple reviews report inconsistent behavior on Firefox, such as activation delays, disabled maximize options, and conflicts with website logins. Some lament missing features like Picture-in-Picture and occasional instability. Overall, it's essential for multitasking users but has room for improvements in feature parity and stability on Firefox.

I've been using this extension for years on Chrome. I recently switched to Firefox and am so happy it's here too! It just works.

This addon works well on Chrome, but switching back to Firefox, it's finicky. On Youtube, the addon only kicks in after going fullscreen and leaving fullscreen once. On Twitch, the behavior is similar, but when clicked the third time does not pop up the menu, but goes into Twitch's "Theatre Mode" and opens the menu at the same time. On Chrome, the window goes into "Theatre Mode" and then pops up the menu on the first click. I don't know if this is because the Firefox version is missing the "PiP" option?
