Speed Reading Trainer

Most people read one word at a time, hear every word in their head, and go back over lines they have already read. Speed Reading Trainer is built to retrain exactly that: it measures how fast you read now, builds the exercises around that number, and runs them on books you would actually read.

HOW THE TRAINING WORKS

Take the reading speed test once. You read a text at your normal pace and tap when you are done, and the result becomes the baseline for every course step that follows. A course step that asks for 30% faster means 30% faster than your own baseline, not faster than an average.

Courses are short. A Level course is about a dozen steps and a few minutes. The warm-ups are one and two minutes. The Home screen shows the course in progress so the next step is one tap away.

READING TECHNIQUES

- Text Flash - word groups flash in the center of the screen (RSVP)
- Text Highlighter - a highlight moves through the page and your eyes follow
- Horizontal Text - word groups slide along a single line
- Text Scroller - the page scrolls at a steady pace
- Field Expander - centered word groups grow wider
- Chunk Expander - text is revealed chunk by chunk at growing distances
- Eye Movement - word groups appear at alternating fixation points
- Pace Trainer - a pace marker moves through full paragraphs
- Icon Tracker and Eye Tracker - warm-ups you follow with your eyes only

Every technique runs on the book you have open, with its own pace, word-group size and colors. All of them share one reading position, so you can switch technique mid-chapter and carry on from the same word. Pace goes from 50 to 4000 words per minute and can be nudged 25 at a time without opening settings.

PRACTICE ON WHOLE BOOKS

Over 30 classics are built into the app and ready the moment you install it. Beyond them there is a catalogue of over 600 verified public-domain editions in more than 50 languages - Austen, Kafka, Soseki, Machado de Assis, One Thousand and One Nights - each one downloaded on demand and yours offline afterwards. Downloading is free on both versions.

BRING YOUR OWN READING (PRO)

Add an EPUB, PDF, DOCX or TXT file, paste a web address and get the article text without the menus and comments, or paste text straight from the clipboard. Share a link, a file or a selection into the app from anywhere in Android. Imported PDF, EPUB and DOCX files can also be read in their original layout, with pages, images and zoom.

A words-per-minute chart for the last seven days, a daily goal in minutes, a streak of consecutive days, the last result on every drill, and a personal best for every game level.

WORKS OFFLINE, STAYS ON YOUR DEVICE

Every technique, course, game and built-in book works with no connection, and so does anything you have downloaded or imported. Your books, statistics and account are stored on the phone. Accounts are local: a user name, no e-mail, no cloud. Several people can share a device with separate progress. The app goes online to download catalogue books, to fetch a web page you asked for, to show ads on the free version, and for anonymous usage statistics.
