Virtual Hosts Firefox

Virtual Hosts

By: Longoon
Apply virtual hosts and overwrite the Hosts header for development purposes.

Features & Capabilities

Virtual Hosts is a powerful Chrome extension designed for web developers to easily test HTTP virtual hosting setups without modifying system DNS or hosts files. It overrides the Host HTTP header on outgoing requests to a specified virtual host on a remote server, allowing developers to access and test multiple sites hosted on the same IP address.

Unlike traditional methods that require DNS changes or host file edits, Virtual Hosts enables seamless testing by rewriting requests only for configured IP and domain pairs. The extension features an intuitive UI to add and manage virtual hosts, enabling or disabling overrides globally or individually. With source code available on GitHub, it's a transparent and trustworthy tool that streamlines development workflows involving virtual hosts.

User Reviews

Works as advertised, perfect for testing containers which bind to 127.0.0.1 but check the Host header for routing. Thanks! (I had to press "Add new virtual host" after filling in fields before they worked but now everything is fine).

Is Virtual Hosts Safe?

Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Virtual Hosts requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
