Features & Capabilities

Tznius View helps you browse the web modestly. With one click it hides — or blurs — the images, background images, videos, and ad-frames on the websites you visit, so you can read the news, shop, research, and get things done while guarding your eyes (shmiras einayim).

Everything happens privately inside your own browser. Nothing you view is sent anywhere, there are no accounts, and there is no tracking.

WHAT IT HIDES • Images on the page (photos, avatars, banners) • CSS background images — hero sections, headers, and banners that other tools miss • Overlay backgrounds drawn with ::before / ::after layers (common in page builders) • Videos • Ads and embedded frames (interstitials, banner ads, embedded players) • Images inside shadow-DOM widgets that ordinary scanners cannot see

HOW IT LOOKS — YOUR CHOICE • Neutral placeholder — keeps the page layout and shows a calm, blank tile • Blur — heavily blurs the image • Remove — collapses the image entirely

MADE TO BE PRACTICAL • A floating on/off button sits quietly in the corner of the page (movable to any corner, or turn it off and use only the toolbar). • A toolbar popup gives you every setting in one place. • Turn it OFF for a specific site you trust, while keeping it ON everywhere else. • Keyboard shortcut: press Alt+Shift+M to hide or show anywhere. • Optional “click to reveal” — click a hidden item to show it, click again to hide it. • A clean, image-free new tab page. • The on-page button and placeholder wording are available in English, Hebrew, and Yiddish. • Starts hidden by default, so a slow-loading page never flashes images before they are hidden.

PRIVATE BY DESIGN Tznius View does not collect any data. It makes no network requests, contains no analytics, and never transmits the pages you view or anything about them. Your settings are stored with Firefox’s built-in preferences sync so they follow you across your own Firefox — and nowhere else.

GOOD TO KNOW • Tznius View hides ALL images rather than only “images of people.” On the open web there is no way to mark images, and browsers cannot reliably analyze most images, so hiding all images is the dependable, private way to browse modestly. • Small background images (icons and sprites) are left alone so site layouts and buttons keep working. Functional frames such as reCAPTCHA and payment widgets are never hidden. • Some websites load background images only as you scroll; the extension re-checks as you scroll and when the page finishes loading, so a background may appear for a brief moment before it is hidden. • Firefox’s own pages (about:, the Add-ons page, etc.) do not allow extensions to run, so media there cannot be hidden — this is a browser restriction.
