User Reviews

Textarea Cache is highly valued for reliably preserving user-typed content across sites, helping avoid data loss and saving time by reducing retyping. Reviewers repeatedly praise its usefulness for long posts and forum writing, and its ability to view, copy, delete, and export saved entries. However, several users report stability and performance problems in some versions, including slow or unresponsive menus, dropdown issues, and browser hangs; and there are compatibility problems on Linux and with updates. Overall, a powerful tool with notable reliability concerns in certain setups.
Pros
  • Highly useful for preventing data loss by auto-saving text across websites and forms.
  • Saves time and reduces frustration by letting you recover long text instead of retyping.
  • Useful for long posts, forums, and other writing tasks in the browser.
  • Allows managing saved content with viewing, copying, deleting, and exporting options, and can auto prune old entries.
  • Generally reliable and appreciated as a useful, low-profile tool.
Cons
  • UI and performance can be slow or unresponsive, with menu dropdowns not working and the browser sometimes hanging.
  • Update and version reliability issues, such as updates not applying in some versions.
  • Cross-platform issues, including some users on Linux reporting it no longer works.
  • Popup interface and layout can fail to fit the screen or take long to load.

Very useful addon. The amount of times this addon has saved me from losing paragraphs of text is well over 100 at this point, and it is rare to run into a case where the text is not recorded (weird JS forms, WebAssembly, etc.)

This addon is so invaluable and the benefits are innumerable. It has saved countless devices from being lodged into the wall, it has saved the wall countless times from having holes punched through it, it has saved the bones in my hands from being broken, improved relations with my neighbors as they no longer hear me screaming at my screen all day, has lowered my stress and blood pressure and overall improved my health and mood on a regular basis. 😁

Very useful, saved me so many times, sometimes from my own inattention, often from badly behaved websites which flushed my text field. This extension saved me from having to re-type my text (as well as not being certain that I remember everything I meant to type, when having to restart from scratch). One issue with the most recent version 5.0.6, but not sure if that's a Firefox or extension issue, is that the extension doesn't update anymore. I check for updates, the new extension version is found, I install it, then if I re-check for updates it is found again. It seems like the update doesn't take. Restarting the browser and deleting cache didn't help. This happened on two very different Windows 11 machines (1/ personal gaming PC and 1 work laptop), both on FF 142.0.1. I fixed by by uninstalling and reinstalling the extension.
