Form History Control

Manage form history entries (search, edit, cleanup, export/import) and easy text formfiller. Auto-save text entered in any form while typing to allow fast recovery when disaster strikes.

Features & Capabilities

Form History Control is a powerful Chrome extension designed to manage your form data efficiently. It automatically saves text entries in any form as you type, enabling you to recover lost work from browser crashes, network failures, or unexpected power loss. Ideal for saving important emails, essays, or blog posts, it ensures your input is never lost unexpectedly.

Beyond auto-saving, the extension serves as an easy-to-use form filler, restoring text fields, editor fields, radio buttons, and check-boxes based on your most recent or frequently used data. It provides robust tools to view, search, edit, and clean up your saved form data. You can also export and import your form history across devices, making it easy to synchronize your data. Built with modern WebExtensions APIs, it maintains its own private form history database, ensuring privacy and control over your saved data. Note that enabling cookies is necessary for proper data storage.

Form History Control is highly valued for preventing data loss on refreshes and crashes and has proven reliability over years. It also supports Android/mobile use and helps save lengthy texts. However, reviewers note a confusing UI (especially on mobile), occasional inconsistent saving/history behavior, and a non-obvious workflow that can slow or complicate use.

Cons

  • Occasional inconsistent behavior in saving/showing history (delayed saves and sometimes missing history).
  • Saving/filling workflow is not straightforward to discover or use, requiring multiple steps and learning curve.

best addon ever! Saved my a$$ dozen times when a website refreshed automatically leading to loose content of all inputs in forms or textfields. I recommend to lower the time between saves to max 30s in settings, otherwise with default options this addon might not have chances to save form data.

Absolutely indispensable, you never know when you're gonna accidentally refresh ChatGPT after typing a two miles long massage or a Youtube comment which would have been gone if not for Form History Control.
