Summarize and Translate with Gemini

I love this extension! You have to use Google AI Studio to get your free API key, but once you have that set up, you're good to go. The extension will summarize web pages *and* YouTube videos that have transcripts ready. Huge time-saver.

Summarization is great and so is translation. With the right prompt this extension is so so much better. The free tier of Gemini 2.5 Thinking on is good enough for concise and understandable summarization and translation. Feature Requests: 1. Adding the option to read aloud the summarization in the extension pop out would be great. 2. Adding the ability to ask follow up questions in the extension pop out would be so much more convenient than having to open the summary in a new window. 3. Allowing the summary to save in cache so that it doesn't go away when the user clicks away from the tab for a prolonged period of time, causing the user to have to regenerate the summary. My customized prompt, that is great in my opinion, for those who want a better summarization: Role: Act as a professional editor and expert translator. Task: > 1. Translate: If the provided text is not in English, translate the core meaning accurately into English, maintaining a professional tone. 2. Summarize: Create a comprehensive summary that captures the main thesis, supporting arguments, and the author's intent. 3. Structure: > * Executive Overview: A 2-3 sentence paragraph explaining the "big picture." Key Themes: Use 3-4 subheadings to break down the primary sections or arguments of the text. TL;DR: At the very bottom, provide a section titled "Critical Bullet Points" containing the 5 most essential takeaways. Constraints: > * Avoid corporate jargon or "filler" phrases. Ensure the translation feels natural, not literal. Maintain the original sentiment and urgency of the text.
