Substitutions Firefox

Substitutions

Alters webpage content to make reading the news more amusing. It does this by replacing words and phrases as well as sometimes replacing images, making the text zalgo or russian, or changing the font or color of text.

Features & Capabilities

A simple addon. When enabled, it applies various replacements to all webpages to make them more amusing. It can be enabled and disabled through your about:addons page.

Originally this was based on the xkcd comics 1288, 1625, and 1679, but now it does much more. In addition to applying most of the xkcd substitutions, it aso does a few of my own. Beyond substitutions, the addon does a number of other things sporadically. It will sometimes replace images, make the text zalgo, change the font to comic sans, change the font color, or for longer text nodes, replace the text with an excerpt from "The Cat in the Hat" translated to russian. Overall, this addon should make the news very amusing.

User Reviews

I confirm, it doesn't change anything in the display of webpage when browsing the Internet, neither in the google image search, wikipedia, nothing. Except when you search "Donad Trump" it shows Frump-a-lump instead of Donald Trump, but even the example search "serious people" shows only "serious people", no joke image. Rename your extension or add more jokes. It's a bit light.

Is Substitutions Safe?

Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Substitutions requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
