User Reviews

Users largely praise Shut Up for effectively blocking or hiding site comments across sites and its per-site memory, with mobile support. However, common concerns include the lack of a hard lock to prevent turning off, intermittent reliability after updates, and occasional site-specific UI conflicts (e.g., YouTube, CNN OpenWeb). Some report it disabling on startup. Overall, it's seen as an essential tool when it works, with calls for improved stability and stronger disable-proof features.
Pros
  • Effectively blocks or hides site comments (notably YouTube) across sites, improving focus and reducing negativity.
  • Works across multiple sites (Reddit, YouTube, etc.) and remembers per-site settings, allowing customized on/off behavior.
  • Quick and easy to toggle on/off, giving users control without heavy friction.
  • Mobile-friendly and generally reliable when functioning, praised as making internet browsing nicer.
  • Widely regarded by users as an essential extension for managing online comments.
Cons
  • No robust way to lock the extension to prevent turning it off (no password/schedule/forced-on option), making it easy to bypass.
  • Intermittent reliability and site-specific compatibility issues, especially after Firefox updates (e.g., timing out, needing refresh; some sites like IG desktop/CNN OpenWeb affected).
  • Can interfere with some site UI (e.g., publishing or community comment panels on YouTube).
  • Sometimes gets disabled on startup and requires manual re-enabling.
  • Not available on Android / lacks an Android version.
Recent reviews
Works all of the time when comments are disabled, but it strangely will disable comments by itself on sites where it was never toggled to do so.

Hides YouTube comments and can easily be enabled again by tapping the extension. It works well on mobile. No issues so far.
