Review summary
Pros
- Effectively enforces SafeSearch mode on multiple search engines, preventing users (especially children) from disabling it.
- Works well to restrict inappropriate content while still allowing access to platforms like YouTube with controlled settings.
- Helpful for parents or educators wanting to maintain SafeSearch settings and avoid easy deactivation.
- Receives appreciation for its concept and functionality to promote safer browsing environments.
- Can be enhanced by combining with other add-ons (e.g., password protection) to prevent disabling.
Cons
- Does not work in private browsing mode despite settings to enable this feature.
- Issues with YouTube filtering settings: limited to 'moderate' only and difficulty adjusting strictness levels or exceptions.
- Extension forgets YouTube leniency settings occasionally, causing frustration.
- Can break or impede functioning of certain sites like qwantjunior.com and qwant.com.
- Lacks password protection to prevent deactivation, reducing enforcement reliability on child accounts.

| 2023-07-15 | po***** | Good addon but it's a pain for me to use Youtube. In about:addons under options I can only select "moderate". Is there another way to lower Youtube's strictness? I saw at the github's site within the wiki that you can edit the json file. And I did. But I can't seem to follow from there. Can you help me? What are the next steps if I don't have Linux? Or is it not possible to do this on Windows? I tried zipping the folder, renaming it to xpi and injecting it with Nightly by also removing something in about:config about addons being signed, but it didn't work cause it said the file was corrupt. Thank you for your time. | |
