Saron Virtual Instrument

The Saron Virtual Instrument offers a digital experience of the traditional Indonesian gamelan instrument known as Saron or ricik. As an essential part of the balungan family, this instrument is featured in Surakarta-style gamelan sets, typically including two pairs tuned to pelog and slendro scales.

Players can replicate the diverse playing techniques such as matching notes, interlocking patterns, or alternating between two sarons. Dynamics and tempo vary based on musical commands and gendhing types, emulating conditions from war-like intensity to gentle accompaniment. The interactive control includes right-hand mallet strikes on metal bars and left-hand dampening to quiet previous notes, replicating the memathet technique for authentic sound nuance.
