Class Recorder

Class Recorder is a research tool for teachers and educators, used to record classroom reading sessions with Romanian-speaking students in grades 1–8. Developed at Babeș-Bolyai University, it helps build a research dataset for studying reading fluency and developing dyslexia screening methods. The app is installed and operated by teachers; students do not download or use the app independently.

HOW IT WORKS

The teacher sets up a session with the book title and grade level, hands the device to a student, and the student reads a passage aloud while the app records. The student provides a nickname — no real names are collected. After the session, the teacher reviews and submits the recording to the research dataset.

FOR TEACHERS

Sign in with your Google account to enable uploads. Your account needs approval from the research administrator before recordings can be submitted — until then, recordings are saved locally on the device and will upload automatically once your account is approved. Guest use (without sign-in) allows practice recording without uploading.

FOR RESEARCHERS

Recordings include metadata (book title, grade, reader age, gender) for corpus analysis. Each upload creates a pull request on the research dataset, allowing review before inclusion. Data is structured for reading fluency analysis and automatic speech recognition research.

PRIVACY & DATA

This app is used in supervised classroom settings. Teachers are responsible for obtaining appropriate parental consent. We collect voice recordings, nicknames, age, gender, and grade level — never real names or other personal identifiers. See our privacy policy for full details.
