Free real-time audio analyser. Display microphone audio as coloured spectrogram.

Features & Capabilities

Spectral Audio Analyzer is a free real-time audio analysis Chrome extension that visualizes microphone input as a colored spectrogram with an 8 kHz spectral bandwidth. This tool allows users to identify environmental noise, detect annoying tones, and observe harmonic patterns in instruments and voices. It's perfect for analyzing the frequency range of speakers and understanding audio characteristics in various environments.

By providing a visually intuitive spectrogram display, Spectral Audio Analyzer helps musicians, audio engineers, and enthusiasts accurately monitor and assess audio signals on the fly. For questions or to report bugs, users can contact the developer at info@radonsoft.net.

User Reviews

Reviews praise Spectral Audio Analyzer for its strong spectral visualization and lightweight performance, making it a handy quick-look tool. However, many users complain about the free version: paywalls, ads, and a lack of features. The app is largely mic-only, with no file-input or external-audio support, and it misses basic controls like speed adjustments and a clear analyzer button. Some describe it as outdated with limited customization, while others still find it valuable for quick visual analysis and noise/interference detection. Overall: great visuals, but major free-version and feature gaps limit usefulness.
Pros
  • Excellent spectral visualization and frequency analysis (waterfall spectrum).
  • Lightweight and fast; low resource usage.
  • Useful for quickly identifying background noise and interference in audio.
  • Strong appeal as a quick exploratory audio analysis tool.
  • Positive reception of its core visualization capabilities (easy to interpret).
Cons
  • Free version is paywalled and ad-supported with limited features.
  • Mic-only input; cannot analyze files or external audio sources.
  • Missing essential controls and features (e.g., clear analyzer button, speed control) and several feature requests.
  • Outdated or limited customization options; narrow analytical capabilities.
  • High upgrade price; better free alternatives exist.

Might be nice after paying. Free is basically useless with a fixed linear 0 - 8 kHz scale. Basically everything you could possibly get from a phone microphone is hidden at the bottom pixels. And even there it looks like the scale of amplitude color is also bad and hard to tell noise from low level signal.
