🛠️ Installation

For Chrome/Edge/Brave

  1. Download or clone this repository.
  2. Open your browser and navigate to chrome://extensions.
  3. Enable "Developer mode" in the top right corner.
  4. Click "Load unpacked" and select the bang-search-extension folder.
For Firefox
  1. Open Firefox and navigate to about:debugging#/runtime/this-firefox.
  2. Click "Load Temporary Add-on...".
  3. Select any file inside the bang-search-extension folder (e.g., manifest.json).
📖 How to Use

From the Search Page

  1. Click the extension icon to open the search page.
  2. Type your command, e.g., !g how to bake a cake.
  3. Press Enter.
From the Address Bar (Omnibox)
  1. Type ! followed by your trigger and query directly into the address bar.
  2. Example: !yt lofi hip hop will search YouTube immediately.
Managing Bangs
  1. Click the Settings (gear icon) on the search page.
  2. Go to the Bangs tab.
  3. Use the Search bar to find existing engines or click Add New to create a custom one.
  4. Search URL: Use %s as a placeholder for your search terms (e.g., https://google.com/search?q=%s).
  5. Home Page URL: (Optional) The URL to visit when you type the bang without any search terms.
⌨️ Advanced Shortcuts
  • /: Focuses the main search box from anywhere on the page.
  • ! [trigger]: Autocompletes the search engine trigger.
  • Esc: Closes the suggestion box or settings modal.
