!bang

Search provider for duckduckgo-style bangs without leaking queries to any search engine, and can be used straight from the address bar. Use it from the address bar by starting your query with "! ".

Features & Capabilities

This is a search provider for duckduckgo-style bangs without leaking queries to any search engine, and can be used straight from the address bar. Using bang via search engines leaks your query and allows them to see which site and query you used.

Instead, this addon performs all bang resolution locally, so your query never touches search engines. To use it, from the address bar, start your search query with "! ", and then start searching for the bang as normal. For instance, typing "! w Firefox" will search wikipedia for "Firefox". See https://duckduckgo.com/bangs for a complete list of accepted bangs. This also supports autocompletion for websites, so searching for the name of a site will autocomplete the bang you need to use.

All bang processing is done locally in your browser and this extension does not use any network services. Do note that the site that you requested to search can still see your search query: for instance, if you search wikipedia for Firefox, then wikipedia can see your search.
