It's impressive, but it's the most complex GUI I have ever laid my eyes on, even as a power user.
The most comparable thing is the program Blender - it took me good time to learn Blender, but it is widely documented, and has imagal, textual and videal demonstrations. I've also used the program AB Commander which is comparable to this in terms of icon & button design. The extension Bookmark Manager Plus is also comparable on those terms.
But this is confusing. Horrifically so. I cannot tell which button alters my bookmarks, and which alters metadata about them, if this can even do the former.
I checked the docs, they tell me everything, except how to use the damn thing. Consider rewriting, so it's not around abstract concepts, but around case uses. There is one video of you clicking through the program and showing various screens, explaining nothing. I can do that myself, no one else's time is needed.
What's the first thing the user might want to do when he opens this? What operations are there? Why does a tag exist by default which contains nothing at all? When I click the extension button what am I creating?
I don't want you to answer these. I want the user onboarding to be made to exist.
The extension "Bookmarks Commander" for example has one, it has an explanatory usage video, it has instructions on basic operations, etc.
I appreciate what you tried to achieve but I'm so confused by this extension.
- How do I create a new folder?
- How do I simply delete a bookmark? I can't figure it out!
- No keyboard navigation (see Windows Explorer and other "organizers of things"). God gave us keyboards for a reason.
- How do I cut & paste bookmarks? (Ctrl+X, Ctrl+V don't do anything)
- Some icons are so cryptic and UI elements have abbreviated text like a puzzle. [MK], [DV], Normalize+. Wow.
- Clicking a bookmark should open it in a new tab instead of replacing my work in the current tab
- I was lucky to discover the "hidden" filter feature - it's just a thin line.
My advice is to go for maximum usability, ease of use, and improved UX rather than "slim & compact UI"
