User reviews
Users appreciate the Secure Shell App for its seamless integration within Chrome tabs, syncing capabilities, and cross-platform support, making SSH connections more accessible and productive. However, several recurring issues reduce its usability: unreliable backup import/export functions, frequent connection refusals, SFTP problems including file corruption, limited host management features, and difficulties uninstalling the app on some systems. Despite these challenges, it remains favored for secure tunneling and multi-server management.
Pros
- Runs conveniently within a Chrome tab, fitting user preferences for browser integration.
- Syncs connection profiles through Google account, enhancing productivity across multiple devices.
- Supports native SSH tunneling, providing essential functionality for secure connections.
- Works well across various operating systems, including macOS and Chrome OS.
- Useful for accessing devices like Firewalla Blue and multiple servers, aiding professional workflows.
Cons
- Difficulties with exporting/importing backups leading to inconsistent restoration of saved hosts and terminal settings.
- Issues with connection refusals and sessions exiting unexpectedly, reducing reliability.
- Problems with SFTP activation and file transfer integrity, including broken or undecodable files.
- Lack of interface options for organizing saved hosts or clearing cache without manual JSON editing.
- Cannot easily remove or uninstall the app on some platforms, with disabled removal options and unclear extension listing.

How do I remove this app? I'm on macOS, but this app synced over from an earlier ChromeOS device. It's installed for me and blocks the "ssh" prefix in the search bar. It does not appear in the list of installed extensions. There is a disabled "Remove from Chrome" button on this page.
