User reviews

The Simple WebSocket Client Chrome extension is praised for its simplicity, reliability, and usefulness in testing WebSocket connections efficiently. Users appreciate its ability to maintain connection history and save time during testing. However, multiple users note the interface is outdated and restrictive, with small input fields and poor text display. It fails to detect server disconnects and lacks essential features like authentication support and subprotocol handling, which limit its usefulness in more advanced scenarios.
Pros
  • Simple and easy to use interface for testing WebSocket connections.
  • Useful and dependable tool that saves time testing local and live server endpoints.
  • Maintains history of connections, making it easier to track previous tests.
  • Effectively does the job it is designed for, fulfilling basic WebSocket client needs.
Cons
  • User interface and layout described as archaic, bad, or in need of improvement with small text boxes and limited resizing options.
  • Does not detect when server closes the connection or handle connection errors gracefully.
  • Lacks support for authentication features such as cookies, headers, and Sec-WebSocket-Protocol headers.
  • Output area issues including no horizontal scroll, text truncation, and no text wrapping leading to visibility problems.

I can test my websocket using swcat and it works fine but with this I get "undefined", useless. Flat out doesn't do the job. It's probably spyware.

Very useful tool. Thanks to the author! A suggestion by the way: Hope to change the width of the URL input box to 90% instead of the current 225px. This makes it easier to modify the URL.
