PersonaPoison

By: x4d1 Add-on
PersonaPoison is an open-source privacy engine for Gecko browsers. It active-spoofs tracking algorithms by injecting high-entropy noise into Canvas, WebGL, and Audio contexts, and randomizing user-agents to dissolve cross-domain profiling.

Features & Capabilities

PersonaPoison is a client-side privacy enhancement engine designed to neutralize behavioral tracking, browser fingerprinting, and corporate user profiling. Traditional privacy tools rely on script blocking or domain filtering, which analytics engines easily flag to trigger CAPTCHAs, anti-adblock screens, or heightened monitoring vectors. PersonaPoison flips this dynamic by employing data poisoning: instead of concealing your system metrics, it intentionally feeds analytical trackers high-entropy, realistic, yet completely artificial device data.

Operating directly at the browser core level, the extension hooks into high-signal tracking APIs at document initialization. It injects a localized script before any page assets execute, modifying the operational variables monitored by third-party tracking scripts.

Core Mitigation Capabilities:

  1. Canvas Fingerprinting Dissolution: Modifies pixel extraction outputs on the fly. When a tracking node requests an image render from an HTML5 Canvas to calculate a unique hardware hash, PersonaPoison shifts pixel bits mathematically based on localized entropy, guaranteeing a useless, randomized signature.
  2. WebGL Parameter Fuzzing: Intercepts WebGL context inquiries to substitute actual graphics card capabilities, manufacturer details, and rendering engine specs with randomized, high-tier hardware configurations.
  3. Audio Context Tainting: Injects precise micro-fuzzing signals into the AudioNode frequency analysis loop, altering audio-based hardware signatures without impacting sound playback.
  4. Outbound Telemetry Sabotage: Intercepts navigator.sendBeacon requests, stripping outbound identifier strings and replacing them with structural background noise to invalidate analytics pipelines.
  5. Algorithmic Interest Noise: Periodically performs automated, sandboxed background queries tied to specific specialized professions to corrupt marketing interest clusters.

Management Console & Operational States: The tool features a dedicated, self-contained dashboard page that acts as the command center. Users can cycle between 20 highly specific, pre-mapped industry personas (ranging from quantitative finance analysts to precision agronomists) to completely alter their User-Agent, platform reporting, screen geometry, and hardware concurrency flags.

For maximum protection, the dashboard includes a Dynamic Combinatorial Mix mode, which continuously synthesizes systems variables across overlapping browser contexts, preventing cross-domain session linking. A global master kill switch is permanently available on the dashboard console, allowing users to temporarily disable all injection scripts with a single click to ensure complete compatibility when processing sensitive online banking or checkout pipelines.

PersonaPoison operates entirely via local memory pipelines. It requires no remote API hookups, features no external tracking dependencies, and leaves zero footprint on data storage arrays. All code is completely open-source, auditable, and built strictly to run local privacy operations.

Is PersonaPoison Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

PersonaPoison requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood
Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

PersonaPoison is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
