Open with VLC is a Chrome extension that adds a convenient context menu option to open audio and video links directly in VLC media player. It supports links with common file extensions such as .mp4 and .mkv.

Unlike other solutions, this extension does not require any native client installation. To use it, VLC must be running with the HTTP web interface enabled and a password set (Settings > Interface > HTTP web interface).
