Nudgeti Firefox

Nudgeti

Don't waste time on distracting websites. A gentler alternative to website blockers.

Features & Capabilities

Nudgeti gives you a nudge when you spend too much time on some websites.

Newsfeed algorithms, trending topics or related videos are a trap for your attention. Companies using them are trying to make you spend as much time as possible on their platforms.

How it works

  • Spend more than two minutes on social media sites like Facebook or Twitter, and a notification will pop up. It will tell you about the time you spent there.
  • After two more minutes on the same website, another notification will appear.

About

  • Nudgeti does not block websites. It will help you snap out of the mesmerized state by telling you how much time you spent on the site.
  • You can configure the notification time and the site list in the extension options.
  • You have to spend more than a fifth of the notification time (around 24 seconds by default) away from a blacklisted site, to reset the timer.
  • Nudgeti is free software under the GPL license. Get the source code from https://github.com/ghinda/nudgeti.

Privacy

Nudgeti does not collect any personal data or statistics.

It stores the time you spend on websites only until you close the browser. The site blacklist and notification time settings are stored with the browser sync storage. They will sync with your Firefox account if you sign in.

User Reviews

I really like the idea, but the current version does not seem to be working on Firefox 74.0

Seriously wonderful tool, a gentle nudge is way more effective than blockers (which one ends up just disabling) for me. Can we get an option to change the sound effect, please? <3

I am super digging the app it's really nice - even with youtube. Because I use youtube in two different ways, one way I am using youtube, I am listening to 4 hour jazz music the other way I am endlessly watching comment reading videos and staying up way too late. I was hoping Nudgeti could help some me stop one of the ways I use youtube but not be too bother by the other and it worked out awesomely. So Nudgeti does not bother if you happen to have a blacklisted site open in a tab so long as you are not on the tab, so I can still listen to my four hour jazz so long as I have it playing in a background tape and just open up a new tab but Nudgeti starts to nudge me when I sit there and watch videos exactly when I need it.

Is Nudgeti Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Nudgeti requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
