Features & Capabilities

NostrComments adds a decentralised, censorship-resistant comment section to any website, powered by the Nostr protocol. Comments live on public relays — no company owns them, no website can delete them, and no moderator can close the conversation.

There is no server, no account, no email, no tracking and no analytics. Nothing is sent anywhere until you explicitly enable it, and you can disable it per site.

FEATURES • Works on every site — news, blogs, YouTube, Reddit, paywalled pages • No account needed — generate a key in one click, or connect Alby or nos2x (NIP-07) • Optional password encryption of your key at rest • Portable identity — copy your key as nsec / npub for any other Nostr app • Shows what the wider Nostr network has said about the page, not only comments left here • Upvote / downvote with community auto-hide • Delete your own comment — a NIP-09 request; relays that honour it drop it • Mute users, and mute any word or phrase you choose • Optional verified names (NIP-05), off by default — checking one contacts that person's domain • Comments posted since your last visit are marked "new" in the thread • Reply notifications that name the page and link to it • Share a comment to your Nostr feed as an ordinary note, behind a confirm • Settings lists the pages you have commented on, so you can find a conversation again • Repeated near-identical comments from one key fold into one line, the rest a click away • Pictures and avatars can be held back until you ask for them, host named before you do • Zaps — tip a commenter over Lightning (NIP-57) • Dark mode, inline images and video, search and sorting • Move the button to whichever screen corner is free, remembered per site • Custom relays, and a per-site disable list • 100% open source (MIT)

SUPPORTING IT Everything here is free and always will be — nothing is held back and there is nothing to buy. If you want to chip in, the panel has a "Support the developer" row that sends sats straight from your wallet to mine over Lightning, with no account and no company in between. The other ways are listed at github.com/briskness-byte/NostrComments#support

Is NostrComments Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

NostrComments requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.

Risk likelihood measures the probability that a Firefox add-on may turn malicious. This is determined by the publisher and the Firefox add-on reputation on Firefox Add-ons Store, the amount of time the Firefox add-on has been around, and other signals about the Firefox add-on. Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

NostrComments may not be trust-worthy. Avoid installing if possible unless you really trust this publisher.
