NekoCap is an open-source Chrome extension that empowers users to create, view, and share community captions for videos on popular streaming platforms like YouTube, Netflix (beta), niconico, Vimeo, bilibili, and TVer. It supports advanced caption rendering, especially for SSA/ASS formats, offering a rich viewing experience with cool effects.

With NekoCap, users can easily create captions directly in their browser using the built-in editor, tweak externally created captions across various formats (SSA, ASS, SRT, VTT, SBV), and export their work, primarily in SRT format. The extension also features a community-driven platform where captions are submitted, rated, and shared, enhancing accessibility and engagement. Currently in alpha, NekoCap invites users to contribute and join its community on Discord for feedback and development.

An add-on that relies heavily on its community, but has huge potential. Writing your own subtitles and sharing them is very simple, so if you want to help foreign audiences discover content from creators who haven’t made their own translations, it’s an excellent tool that deserves more attention.
