MD Capture Firefox

MD Capture

Highlight and select DOM elements on any webpage, convert their content to Markdown, copy to clipboard, with preview and download support.

Features & Capabilities

MD Capture lets you pick any element on a webpage — a paragraph, a table, an article, even an entire section — and turn it into clean Markdown with a few keystrokes. No more copy-pasting into online converters or hand-writing markup.

Enter capture mode and move through the DOM hierarchy with your keyboard:

  • / k — parent · / j — first child · / h — previous sibling · / l — next sibling
  • Enter — confirm and exit · Shift+Enter — confirm and keep capturing (multiple elements)
  • Esc — exit · ? — bring back the floating panel
  • When selecting whole page, asks for confirmation before converting the whole page

Prefer the mouse? Toggle the crosshair button in the panel: hover to highlight, click to lock — just like the browser's element picker.

  • Highlighted element with a floating tag (tag, id, class) that follows scrolling
  • A floating panel (draggable & resizable, remembers position/size) showing:
  • a canvas thumbnail of all block-level elements drawn in document coordinates (doesn't shift when you scroll)
  • breadcrumb path, tag / id / class, size, child count, empty state
  • Keep or strip images, links, tables, code blocks
  • Clean inline styles (unwrap span/font), remove empty paragraphs
  • Heading style: keep original level / flatten to bold / force H2
  • Local CSS filter: pick a parent element, then extract only the nodes matching your selector (e.g. article p, .content img)

Markdown is copied to the clipboard automatically with a toast notification, followed by a floating action bar (8s): Open Preview (raw source in a new tab) and Download .md.

  • Toolbar icon → popup (quick toggles) → Start Capture
  • Right-click anywhere → "Capture element as Markdown" (starts from the element under the cursor)
  • Shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+M (reassignable in about:addons)

Everything runs locally in your browser. No data is collected, stored remotely, or sent anywhere. Permissions are minimal: activeTab (current page only), contextMenus (context menu entry), clipboardWrite (copy result), storage (save your settings).

Interface languages: English, 中文.

Is MD Capture Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

MD Capture requires some sensitive permissions that could impact your browser and data security. Exercise caution before installing.

Our algorithms are not perfect, and are subject to change as we discover new ways to detect malicious extensions. We recommend that you always exercise caution when installing a Firefox add-on.

MD Capture is recently added, and hasn't been around long enough for us to gather enough data to accurately assess its risk level.
