Features & Capabilities

MandarinSpot Pop-up Annotations

Mouse over any Chinese text on any webpage to instantly see Pinyin romanization and English definitions. No internet required — the entire dictionary is bundled offline with the extension.

Features:

  • Instant lookups — Hover over any Chinese character or word to see its definition immediately
  • Smart segmentation — Recognizes multi-character words for accurate results
  • Pinyin + definitions — Clear romanized pronunciation and multiple English translations per entry
  • Works everywhere — Active on all websites; just mouse over Chinese text
  • Fully offline — No network requests; loads the pre-compiled CEDICT dictionary locally
  • Auto light/dark theme — Popup adapts to the background brightness of the text you're reading

How it works: Simply move your cursor over any Chinese text. The extension will detect word boundaries, look up the term in its offline dictionary, and display a popup with Pinyin pronunciation and English definitions. Works on any webpage, even while offline.

Dictionary: Powered by the CC-BY-SA licensed CEDICT dictionary, pre-compiled for fast lookups with intelligent word segmentation.
