How it works

Double-click any word on a web page. A small definition bubble appears next to your cursor with meanings, part of speech, and pronunciation when available.

Use the toolbar button to open the full dictionary panel. Type a word, pick a language, and read longer entries with links to Wiktionary.

Why you might like it

  • Fast — definitions show up right where you are reading
  • Free — no subscription and no API keys to set up
  • Works on most sites — any normal http or https page
  • Many languages — Arabic, Chinese (Simplified & Traditional), Czech, Dutch, English (UK & US), French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Slovak, Spanish, and Turkish
  • Listen — tap the speaker icon to hear pronunciation when audio is available
  • Light or dark — follow your system theme or choose one in settings
Privacy
  • Lookup history is optional and stored only on your device
  • No remote telemetry — usage stats never leave your browser
  • Words you have looked up before may be cached locally so repeat lookups are quicker
Settings

Open Add-ons → Dictionary on Click → Preferences (or right-click the toolbar icon → Manage ExtensionPreferences) to change:

  • Dictionary language and translation target
  • Theme (system, light, or dark)
  • Whether to save history
  • Export or clear history and diagnostics
If a definition looks wrong, use the report button on a lookup — reports stay on your device until you export them.

Where definitions come from

Definitions are fetched from free public sources, mainly Wiktionary. English lookups may also use the Free Dictionary API and Datamuse. Content is shown under their licenses; full attribution is on the options page.

Getting started

  1. Install the add-on
  2. Pin Dictionary on Click from the puzzle-piece menu in the toolbar
