MagnetGrab Firefox

MagnetGrab

A lightweight Firefox extension that lets you build and grab magnet links directly from any web page — just select a torrent hash or an existing magnet URI, right-click, and go.

Features & Capabilities

Features

Context Menu

Right-click any selected text to access the MagnetGrab submenu:

  • Open in torrent client — builds a full magnet link and opens it immediately, passing control to your default torrent application.
  • Copy magnet link — copies the assembled magnet URI to the clipboard and shows a confirmation notification.
Smart Input Detection

MagnetGrab validates your selection before doing anything:

Auto-detect Torrent Name (dn=)

When building a magnet link from a plain hash, MagnetGrab optionally extracts a human-readable name from the page and embeds it as the dn= parameter. This name appears in your torrent client instead of a raw hash.

The feature is fully configurable in Settings:

  • Enable or disable name detection entirely with a toggle.
  • Choose which sources to use and in which order — sources are tried top to bottom and the first match wins:
  • Drag to reorder sources. Changes are saved automatically.
  • If a site produces incorrect names, simply disable the feature or adjust the source priority for that type of site.
Tracker Management

A built-in settings page lets you maintain your own tracker list. Changes take effect on every new magnet link you create. The default list includes 14 active, well-maintained trackers across udp:// and https:// protocols.

Auto-update — MagnetGrab can automatically refresh the tracker list weekly from ngosang/trackerslist, a community-maintained source of the best public trackers. You can also trigger an update manually at any time. Saving a custom tracker list disables auto-update automatically to preserve your edits.

Test trackers — the settings page can test each HTTP/HTTPS tracker for reachability (5-second timeout). UDP trackers are flagged as untestable, since browsers cannot open UDP sockets.

Link History

Every magnet link you open or copy is saved locally (up to 20 entries). Access it by clicking the ⚡ toolbar icon. History is grouped by date:

  • Today
  • Yesterday
  • Day of the week (within the last 7 days)
  • Month and year (older entries)
From the popup you can re-open, copy, or delete individual entries, or clear the entire history at once.

Is MagnetGrab Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

MagnetGrab requires a few sensitive permissions. Exercise caution before installing.
