Features & Capabilities

Link Switcher lets you rewrite parts of URLs when clicking links on websites you choose.

It is useful for switching between production, staging, development, local, mirror, regional, or alternative versions of the same service. Instead of manually editing every URL, create a replacement rule once and use links normally.

  • Replace domains, ports, paths, or other URL fragments
  • Create multiple independent rules
  • Enable or disable individual rules
  • Apply each rule only on a website you specify
  • Preserve regular clicks, middle-clicks, and opening links in new tabs
  • Automatically preserve unfinished settings as drafts
  • Request access only to websites explicitly approved by you
  • Store all settings locally in your browser

Configure a rule to replace:

https://staging.example.com

with:

http://localhost:3000

When you click a matching link on the configured website, Link Switcher rewrites it before the browser opens it.

Link Switcher has no analytics, advertising, accounts, remote code, or external servers. It does not collect or transmit browsing history, website content, or personal information.

Rules are stored locally using the browser extension storage API. Website access is requested only after you create and save a rule for that website.

Is Link Switcher Safe?

Risk impact
Risk impact measures the level of extra permissions an extension has access to. A low risk impact extension cannot do much harms, whereas a high risk impact extension can do a lot of damage like stealing your password, bypassing your security settings, and accessing your personal data. High risk impact extensions are not necessarily malicious. However, if they do turn malicious, they can be very harmful.

Link Switcher does not require any sensitive permissions.
